All that is required by this unit is to peel and quarter the potatoes, and it does the rest. After the cycle has finished you can add butter, salt, milk, etc. and push the manual mix button. Consistency is great, with small lumps remaining after the auto-mix cycle (you could press the manual mix button to further whip the potatoes if you don't like any lumps). • While mixing, the unit is remarkably quiet, just a whirring humming noise, much quieter than a typical mixer. The recipes that come with it are also excellent. The unit can also be used as a steamer by simply removing the beaters. We have steamed all sorts of squash (butternut, banana, summer, peter pan, spaghetti, yellow summer) and had excellent results every time.
